Australia's world MotoGP titleholder Casey Stoner won himself a luxury BMW cabriolet here on Sunday as he won the opening salvo in testing for the forthcoming season.

The 22-year-old posted a best time of 1minute 49.263seconds on his Ducati with Italy's five-time world champion Valentino Rossi - he was also world champion twice in other categories - second fastest on a Yamaha, 1.317sec slower.

Rossi, though, said he was satisfied with the workout.

"Today the conditions made things quite difficult so we didn't have quite the day we hoped for," commented Rossi, who didn't show any signs of being affected by the massive 19million euro bill he was landed with for unpaid taxes earlier this week in Italy.

"Anyway I'm quite happy with our performance in this weather; it's the first time for me with the Bridgestones in the wet and, although we can see that we have some more work to do with the set-up of our bike, we were not so slow."
